TOOLS of the Trade

Scrivener

Literature & Latte designed this piece of software to be everything: a ring-binder for your story bible, a word processer you can draft out-of-order in, and a corkboard. It changed my writing life.

Scrivener Template

I mostly use this Scrivener template because I like the icons and it aligns well with my own writing process. Scrivener itself is amazing at how much you can change within the project’s framework.

Writing Mastery

I can’t remember when I joined, but I don’t regret it. There’s a full suite of courses, including revision, productivity hacks, and publishing your completed novel to major publishers and how to self-publish.

DIY Book Covers

Derek Murphey creates some amazing shit. I made Trickster with this. It’s an online tool that gives you Photoshop-level quality and professional genre templates to play with.

Archetypal Character Arcs

K.M. Weiland created an extensive blog series on the “life cycle” of archetypal character arcs, from coming-of-age stories to the inevitable end of surrendering power.

The One Page Novel Course

I took this course as a bit of fun, but I enjoyed it so much I come back to it when I want to write shorter stories. It’s a genius method of creating an entire core plot on one page.

BUSINESS & BEYOND

Personal Faves

Canvas Messenger Bag

There are so many pockets and it’s lasted me years.

Hot Lava Java Coffee Bags

Taylors of Harrogate is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Video Game Soundtracks

Sarah Schachner is my fave soundtrack composer.

A5 Ring-binder Notebook

I love the real leather and versatility of the A5 size.

Botanical Oracle Cards

I’ll be honest, I bought this for the pretty pictures, but I love using it.

Medusa Snake Necklace

If the neckline’s right, and I need to dress up, I wear this necklace.

Uniball Signo Gel Pen

I love the look of fountain pen ink without having to change cartridges.

Inspiration eBook

Eva Deverell created an ebook and printable cards on the nine Muses.

Gabby Coaching App

This is what I use for my daily meditation practice.
