The Villain You Made

The Villain You Made

By George Elmer

In 1749, the son of an innkeeper joins the crew of a merchant ship to find his missing father, but the captain is willing to sacrifice them all to find a cure for death.

Port Fortitude is the same as any other colonial port town in the Caribbean, everyone knows their place and that’s the way life rolls on. For John Silver, helping his single mother keep the inn she owns is more important than the prospects everyone says he should work on if he wants a wife one day. And then a merchant ship anchors in port, the captain of which thinks John would make an excellent addition to his crew.

Joining the crew seems to be a good way to find his missing father while making his fortune. But the work his hard, and Captain Webb drives his crew like he’s still an officer in His Majesty’s Navy. John’s only ally on the crew is the navigator, a man who has a preternatural ability to control the seas. When Webb has them chasing after ghost stories in an insane quest to cheat death, John must become a formidable sailor among a crew of hardened seamen before the captain kills them all.
